Which window to choose for your RV? CRL or AM Auto
CR Laurence and AM Auto windows are two popular brands in the van industry. Here are the main differences between the two:
Quality and materials:
- CR Laurence : CR Laurence windows are made of tempered glass, certified for automotive use.
- AM Auto : AM Auto also offers tempered glass windows, suitable for intensive use.
Conception and Design:
- CR Laurence : CRL windows are OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) and they are tinted 70%. They are popular because of their awning-type opening with hinges. This type of opening allows you to leave your windows open when it rains lightly. However, they must be closed when you are on the road, because their awnings are fragile to projectiles. CR Laurence also offers the option of fixed windows.
- AM Auto : AM Auto also have OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) type windows and they are 83% tinted. They are well known by their large sliding type opening. Their design allows them to remain open when you are on the road and closed during bad weather. AM auto also have the option of fixed windows.
Installation :
- CR Laurence : CRL windows require special attention for installation. They are installed in a "sandwich" style with a molding screwed onto the inside of the window. All you need is a bare metal primer to apply to the metal cut to prevent corrosion. Screws are provided, but make sure you have the right tools to do the screwing properly and ensure the gasket is properly seated on the truck.
- AM Auto : AM Auto windows are bonded directly to the vehicle body, just like the original windows. A reinforced rubber interior trim molding is included. Bare metal primer is also required, as well as a tube of urethane for installation.
*One tube of urethane per window is required unless mention
Price :
The price difference between CR Laurence and AM Auto is related to the manufacturing and hardware required for the operation of the openings.
Security :
You often ask us about window security; AM Auto has a central latch that avoid to be open by the outside, while CRL has no latch, but the crank and mechanical gear ensure that it does not open.
In our opinion, the AM Auto remains more secure, as it is much more difficult to force open from the outside than the CRL.
